Germany’s KFC has apologized after a “semi-automated” push notification system promoted “tender cheese with crispy chicken” as a way to remember the anniversary of a Jewish massacre. “It’s Kristallnacht Remembrance Day! Treat yourself to more tender cheese on your crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!” reported the message according to the BBC. The company apologized for a “manifestly wrong, insensitive and unacceptable message” given on the anniversary of Kristallnacht, November 9, the “night of broken glass” when a Nazi paramilitary group carried out an organized massacre of Jews. The name came from the following morning, when broken glass from the shattered windows of Jewish businesses littered the streets. An estimated 91 Jews died and 267 synagogues were destroyed, with many businesses looted, according to the Holocaust Memorial Foundation.
