Her aunt described Backus as “very responsible” and never one to leave home. She wasn’t very active on social media and had a small—but good—group of close friends. “She has a great head on her shoulders,” Bjorklund said. “He grew up to be an amazing man.” Backus’ friend, who slept over Bjorklund’s house, doesn’t know where Backus went the night of the sleepover and initially thought the adults were overreacting, according to Bjorklund. Bjorklund also said sniffer dogs picked up Backus’ scent along her property.
