After a few weeks of the blackout, the problem was fixed, and CBS is now available on AT&T TV. A dispute between CBS and AT&T over a new contract resulted in the network going black early Saturday morning on more than 6.5 million AT&T subscribers. According to a statement released by CBS on Saturday, the network is just searching for a fair price for its popular programs and is offering economic conditions comparable to those that AT&T’s rivals have accepted “in hundreds of our previous distribution deals.”

AT&T statement

We have repeatedly urged Hearst to keep its stations accessible while they come to a new commercial agreement in private, since we need Hearst’s consent to offer any of its stations. Hearst has refused to accept our offers and has refused to accept the far greater compensation we have ever agreed to with any other station owner, including very recent deals with significantly bigger broadcasters.

CBS has finally canceled its contract with AT&T Uverse by making its customers pay the price for AT&T’s aggressive actions, CBS cautioned the black “may endure a long time,” even though AT&T has a long and obvious track record of doing precisely that. AT&T’s recent discussions have resulted in several carriage conflicts, blackouts, and popular channels being withdrawn from their services, including its current fight with Nexstar covering 120 stations nationwide.

The Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) is a protocol that combines industry-standard MPEG video and audio data with privately determined program-specific data. This allows broadcasters to more accurately identify the programs that are being aired, which in turn allows them to better serve their viewers. ..

The best compromise for CBS and AT&T U-verse is to combine the two services into a single service. This would allow CBS and AT&T to offer a more comprehensive package of services, including live streaming of CBS shows and access to the latest U-verse features.

There are measures to attempt and end these blackouts forever, including new laws, and fortunately, Congress has shown increased interest in doing so. But the best course of action is to engage in sincere conversations with broadcasters like CBS to forge relationships that will benefit both parties.
